Supported Internship programme at North Devon College

CQC have recently taken part in the Supported Internship programme at North Devon College. The programme provides young people with additional needs the opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience while developing the skills and confidence needed for future employment.

Jen joined the Supported Internship programme at North Devon College in September 2025. At the start of her internship, Jen found unfamiliar situations and meeting new people challenging. She was determined to build her confidence, develop her workplace skills and work towards achieving paid employment.

Jen was offered a nine-month work placement with CQC. During her first few days, she was supported by her Job Coach as she settled into the workplace and became familiar with the environment. Thanks to the welcoming and inclusive approach of the team at CQC, Jen quickly grew in confidence. Within a few weeks, she had become a valued member of the team, enjoying breaks and lunch with colleagues, chatting about day-to-day life, and even sharing football banter with her manager, Barry.

From the outset, Jen demonstrated a strong work ethic, excellent reliability and a commitment to completing every task to a high standard. As her confidence grew, so did her independence. She became increasingly comfortable approaching new situations, communicating with colleagues and taking on responsibilities within the workplace.

Reflecting on her placement, Jen believes the encouragement and support she received from everyone at CQC played a significant role in her personal and professional development. She has developed valuable transferable skills and increased her confidence, helping her to secure paid employment with an organisation closer to home.
